Our New Home

Hello Everyone,
I'm not sure quite why I decided to create this blog for Brett and I, but I've seen so many other people doing it and I think it's a great idea for a way to stay updated on peoples' lives. While we're not the most interesting people, and a lot of people have facebook and use that as a communication network, I thought this would be useful for our family and friends who don't have facebook, or the ones who might be considering facebook:) (my father-in-law is on the fence)

HOME (PART 1)

This summer, Brett and I celebrated our 1st anniversary along with the celebration of our first home purchase! So exciting!! We bought a 1986 New England Colonial home with 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. WHAT A PROJECT!! Little did we know that we would COMPLETELY be flipping a house this summer and into early fall...what am I thinking...we're still working on it:) Anyways, the Friday that we got posession, we started immediately ripping out flooring, and painting as our carpet and tile layers were coming the following Monday. We had to paint the entire upstairs (all three bedrooms, the bathroom and the stairway). The same weekend, our appliances came and found a temporary home in our dining room until the flooring was layed. So within the first week, we had our carpet, tile, and thankfully our hardwood floors layed. The hardwood floors we had installed as this would've been a long process for Brett, since he'd only have the chance to work on it after work and weekends. But, after that we've done EVERYTHING ourselves! Brett is a blessing when it comes to handy work, he did everything from plumbing, to lighting, and installing the new countertop. Of course with the help our our neighbor Danny, who is also a co-worker of Brett's.

We were also VERY fortunate to have Brett's parents come out for a week this summer, who were an absolute God send in the home renovation dept. The poor people spent their entire vacation working on our house all day while we were at work, and then at nights with us home. We did take one R&R day and enjoyed the sights of the Atlantic Ocean via a ferry to Martha's Vineyard where we spent an entire day. With Paul and Janet here, they surprised us with a house warming gift of all new doors inside, which makes everything look soooo much nicer. Our ugly, old wood doors kind of dated the house despite the new paint and flooring. One day I came home from work and Janet had started painting the trim around our windows and WOW did that look sharp! Of course we've finished the rest of the trim and windows in the house and man does that make a difference!
